Now that I am well into my sophomore year at NDRK, I often take time to reflect on my time here so far and where I see myself developing. Although freshman year seemed to fly by in a flash, there were definitely challenges to overcome and defining moments that will stick with me beyond my time here. I often think back to what I wish I knew before stepping foot on campus, and here are my top five pieces of advice I wish I got as a freshman!
Dont Spread Yourself Thin: Cannot stress this enough. At NDRK, you’ll feel expected to join an array of clubs, while studying, socializing, sleeping, planning your future, and also staying sane?? Rest assured, you will be surrounded by driven peers just like yourself. That’s the beauty of this place, at any given moment, there are countless other students in the same boat as you. Everyone is trying their best. Amidst all this, it is so important to take time for yourself, and remind yourself why you are here. Club rejections are inevitable, so are the occasional bad grades. But knowing how to manage your time and prioritize your involvements will set you on a path to success. Clubs are important and add to your Georgetown experience, but your main priority is being a student—extra-curricular stress should never take that away from you! Trying to do every single thing offered on this campus is just…impossible. There are so many amazing opportunities and you are going to have to see which ones add to life in the most meaningful ways. Don’t lose yourself.
